2026 - february block of the month - a selection of hearts
There are bazillions of sites with free instructions for paper piecing. I found two I especially like and couldn't decide which one to recommend this month. so ... what the heck, why not ... check out both. i hope you'll like at least one of them and show us photos.
Piecemeal Quilts - several hearts to choose from, plus illustrated instructions. their instructions for freezer paper paper piecing are here: https://piecemealquilts.com/wp-conte...g-tutorial.pdf the selection of small, simple hearts are on this page. click on the heart(s) you want to try to get the printable foundation: https://piecemealquilts.com/2010/01/...-heart-blocks/ if you don't have freezer paper, use regular paper but pin the pieces to the paper foundation as you go along. then you can remove it to use again by pulling the pins. or sew along the lines, through the paper, then remove the paper and print copies to make the number of blocks you want. any regular paper will do. i have freezer paper ... somewhere ... but i'm also going to try at least one printed on notebook paper. i think it will be better for the stitich-on-lines-then-tear-away-the-paper method. it isn't transparent but it is light weight and "see-through-ish." Create Whimsey: since not everyone is a fan of paper piecing, i added this choice that offers a pieced heart and other heart projects. https://createwhimsy.com/projects/sc...free-tutorial/ they also have a page of instructions for freezer paper piecing are here: https://createwhimsy.com/projects/ho...freezer-paper/ i might have mine done today but there are a few things that might get in the way of that plan. if you get your heart done before i do, feel free to start the photos thread. |
Fun!!! I think I'm going to do a mix of techniques. I love to make crumb blocks, and the Crazy heart on the Peacemealquilts looks great. I'll make two rectangles of crumbs then paper piece the background. Now to pick a size???

dedemac...what do you mean by crumbs....Sounds interesting. Its my sister birthday today so I asked her what she'd like. Pot holder. place mat or table runner. She chose table runner and fave colours Purple and green.. so far I've made 2 x 6 1/2 inch blocks Freezer paper way.and came up to print more copies to do Paper piecing way and maybe I'll add in some scappy hearts as well

M-fay - I just randomly sew my small scraps together to make fabric big enough to use. I usually end up with a 4.5 or 6.5 inch square. The red scraps are what I'm working on now and the picture of my design wall is a UFO project I'm doing.
Doing crumb block is just mindless random sewing, very relaxing. But you get exercise if you keep your iron in a different room, since I press after each addition. |

M-fay - Here is my finished 6.5 inch crumb block. I can't wait to see what you come up with for your sister.
I put some blue fabric behind it so it would show up on my design wall |
That's beautiful Dedemac. I posted pictures of some of the blocks on Jan pics page. And I forgot to take a photo of the TR before posting
I'll get her to send me a photo when it arrives next week. |

Here is mine - I used scraps from my stash. (not sure why my image turned sideways - if you click on it, it turns it the proper direction)

I started a thread for the pictures for February today, if anyone wants to put theirs in it.
i found this site with more heart patterns, I did not make any of them though, just sharing the link. https://sewhooked.com/2020/02/14/hap...ttern-roundup/ |
