Scissors: Do yourself a favor
For years I have purchased my fabric scissors at Joann's because 1. the coupon, and 2. I just knew I could not afford to buy those expensive scissors--the Ginghers.
Now that I'm 78 years old I decided it was finally time I got some good shears. I'm cutting out multiple 6 inch high teddy bears and it is simply a chore. (A free ITH project from Kreative Kiwi.) Let me tell you that Gingher scissors are a huge step above Joann's scissors and they cost about the same. Who Knew?! Cutting two layers of fleece in one simple cut and clipping curves is like cutting soft butter. So do yourself a favor and when you need new scissors, or just to get some good ones, go ahead and buy the Ginghers. Save yourself! |
I've used Gingher shears for years. I love them. My original shears finally had to be sharpened after 40 years. I'm still using them. Just a hint for those who are "frugal". I've bought several pairs of Ginghers that were sharp and in good shape at estate sales for under $5.00 each. I just carry some scraps with me to test them. Those were a score.

I too have had my Gingher's for years. Like maybe 40+?? I have had them sharpened and about 10 years ago I sent them back because the screw that held them tog kept loosening, They work as well today as they did 40 years ago!!

I love my Ginger scissors. They are definitely the sharpest pair I own.

As a young mom I gave up plenty of wants for my kids wants. I don't have to do that anymore. I pamper myself and do not have one pang of guilt about it. If I want a pair of new scissors to try I buy them. I don't justify needing them.

I adore my Gingher scissors!! I thought long and hard about investing in a pair of those offset scissors for cutting batting and realized that my Ginghers with their spring action are actually easier to operate!
For their price, they are a steal! |
What size Gingher scissors do you like for piecing quilts?
Thanks. |
Love my Gingher scissors. I was surprised to find out that they are made by Fiskars now.

There are several good scissor brands. I love my Kai scissors.

As a quilter, rotary blades are what i use the most for cutting. Howeve I did check the Ginghers out on Amazon and just ordered a pair of their knippers for cutting threads when quilting. I have two other pair from another company, but blades are getting dull on them and for the cost of having them sharpened was about equal to a new pair. Will let you know how I like them when they arrive.
