Hello:
I have been using spray starch when pressing some of my blocks in order to make them more crisp and help prevent any stretching of the cut edges. I also want to try the starch method for hand applique. Can anyone tell me whether there is a difference between spray SIZING and spray STARCH and whether one or the other is preferred? A friend thought that starch might attract insects if a quilt was folded and stored and if it still had starch on it. So . . . . . would like to know which you use and why. Thank you for any thoughts on this. Wendy |
as an addition to this, I'm also curious about the starch that comes in a spray can, versus the liquid that comes in a squirt bottle... any insight would be appriciated.

A great article by Diane Gaudynski here on Starch.

Thanks for the link, Gail. She really explains a lot of things I had questioned. I think starch is stiffer than just sizing.

I have always used the Magic Sizing that I get at Dollar Tree. Now all they sell is the Starch. I don't like how stiff the starch makes the fabric, although I guess that is the point of using it. Bring back the Magic Sizing, please.

I got magic Sizing at WalMart for .89 a can . Have you checked at your WalMart ?

Thanks Sharon. Our WalMart is quite a distance away but I will be over there soon. Down to my last can of Magic Sizing and I just don't like the starch as much at all.
