can anyone tell me if this is a featherweight?

no, it is not.
|
thanks!
|
Probably not. The Featherweights come ONLY in a black retangular box, not a wooden dome box. Also, a Featherweight is much smaller than a normal machine and weighs less. The final thing to look for: all Featherweights have a fold down throat plate (on the left side of the machine when it is facing you). Whenever you come across a Singer machine, there is a serial number on it, sometimes on the front, other times not. You can call Singer's toll free # and they will tell you the model of the machine and when it was "born". Hope this helps!

looks like a nice machine.

I'm not an expert or anything but I don't think that is FW. First is the case -- I've only seen FW in a black carry box. Second is the wood encasing it is 'sitting' in -- again I've only see FW standing free. ALso FWs have that little front lip that moves -- but you can't see that in the photo. Just ask the seller for the model and serial number -- that will tell you for sure, and you can look up the age.

I'm with everyone else, I don't think it's a FW either. Why don't you email the owner and ask if it's labeled as a Featherweight?
|
Thanks everyone. It does look like a really nice machine, obviously has been well maintained. But I already have 2 machines, so I'm not sure I'd go for this unless it was a featherweight, even for $60.
|
It's a beautiful machine, not a featherweight, but still beautiful...and I'd pay the $60 for it....actually would probably offer $45 and see if they didn't take it.
I'm betting Billy will be able to tell you what it is...Model 66 maybe? (I'm not up enough yet on the different models!) |
looks like a 99 that started life as a hand-crank and somewhere along the line somebody put a WHITE motor on it.. white being for the color white, not the company...
the open wheels generally mean hand-crank or treadle, solid wheel=electric.. a VERY heavy machine - farthest from "featherweight" you can imagine... |
