What's considered a typical "lap quilt" size? In the crib quilt range?

Mine are usually about 45 x 60, depending on the block size I use. But I believe originally they were about 36 square and intended to only cover your lap when you were sitting. I call mine lap quilts, but I guess actually the should be called comfort or couch quilts.

I like to make mine 50 X 72, you can turn them sideways for more than one lap, or lay down and completely cover up, from head to toe :D:D:D

I guess the best question would be "What's the average American size lap?" And maybe we don't want to know the answer to that!! hehe.

I call mine "nap" quilt; the one currently on my sofa is 56 x 70.
