What's considered a typical "lap quilt" size? In the crib quilt range?

Mine are usually about 45 x 60, depending on the block size I use. But I believe originally they were about 36 square and intended to only cover your lap when you were sitting. I call mine lap quilts, but I guess actually the should be called comfort or couch quilts.

I've been making "lap" quilts for charity. A 36 square is ok for wheel chair. Even this varies . I tried to make them 40x60 like you said a couch throw size. I find these are a little small for practical purposes so now I make them 52 X 68. really depends what the end purpose is.

My question always is, How many laps?

OK, good point here. DH would probably appreciate dual occupancy. :) (Then of course there's the cat's opinion.)

I like to make mine 50 X 72, you can turn them sideways for more than one lap, or lay down and completely cover up, from head to toe :D:D:D

I guess the best question would be "What's the average American size lap?" And maybe we don't want to know the answer to that!! hehe.

I agree. I take the person height into consideration when I do these. I can't stand it when my feet hang out the end!!! :lol: :lol:

I call mine "nap" quilt; the one currently on my sofa is 56 x 70.
