I have a design for a cross stitch. It's 260 x 230 stitches. I've done cross stitching before, just always from a kit, so I know the basics.

I found this link. When it says 14 count, does that mean there's 14 little stitch boxes per inch? For mine, 260 x 230 with 14 stitches per inch, I think I need a piece about 19" x 17". Am I figuring that correctly???

Any help is always appreciated - you're the best! :D

Here is a link for you to figure out the size of fabric you would need. Make sure you allow extra for framing (at least 3") each side. HTH

Yes, 14 count Aida is 14 to the inch. Very nice for detailed designs.

You want at least 2-4 inches per side margin around your design for your hoop and to leave room for 'white space' (unstitched fabric) between design and frame...more space at the edges if the frame will have a mat.

Right right. I just really wanted the backgroup to be pink and that's the only pink I can find. But so 25" x 22" or so should be good. Thanks for the calculator link!

I have done quite a bit of cross stitch and I find I don't like Aida. I always use linen. You can find it in many colors and it is much easier on the hands. Just make sure the linen is an even weave (meaning the holes are all the same size). Take a small ruler with you when you go to buy it to see how many holes there are to the inch. Then you can figure out how much fabric the pattern will use.

Why that's just crazy enough to work! I didn't even think of using regular linen, even though I own regular linen that's cross stitched. Thank you!

Just remember to stitch over 2 threads. A 14 count Aida and a 28 count linen can be worked the same. I also prefer to work on linen. I found the Aida cloth is stiff and hard on my hands
