Hi. Does anyone have any good ideas for making labels? I usually use the computer and print on the special label sheets you can buy at JoAnne's. I don't have an embroidery machine otherwise, I would embroider labels. Sure would appreciate some good ideas. Thanks, Donna

I have a book of iron on labels. You color them in with dye pens or pigma pens. It covers pretty much any style of quilt you might make. I found it at Jo Anns.

I have used the picture of maker idea. Not on a quilt however. I made pillowcase dolls for each of my DDs and GDs, using pillowcases that my grandmother crocheted lace edgings on. I made a label telling who made the pillowcases, and her birth/death date, along with a picture. It turned out very nicely. Also added who the dolls were made by, and date made.

No, but what a great idea. My Mom passed away 2 yrs. ago and I am finishing 5 of her quilts. I happened to find a label she made with her hand-written signature which I also think is wonderful. So, I am going to try that as well.

I wrote about this before but I'm so tickled I'm going to write about it again.
I use an ink jet printer, scotch tape a square of fabric to a piece of regular computer paper slide it gently into the printer feed thingie with the fabric and tape side down and print out whatever I want. I understand that the colored ink doesn't hold up and will wash up but the black ink washes and dries well. I couldn't quite figure out where the printing would hit the fabric so I used a larger piece of fabric than I needed but so what? Maybe when I'm feeling fancy I'll use a design with colored ink and then use fabric pens and color over the colored ink. It's nice to live at a time when these things are availavle! Jois |
