I found a beautiful Singer treadle machine from 1887 on Craigslist about a week ago. I thought about it all week, and then saw that it was reposted today. After thinking about it some more, I finally called the guy and asked him some questions. It had been purchased new and passed down in the family...fiddle base, perfect decals, lovely cabinet. I asked if I could come see it this weekend, and he said, "Oh no, my wife is crying. I think I have to remove it from Craigslist. I can't sell it." I told him I understood...once I traded in a machine and then went back later that day and got it back. The store owner told me he knew I'd be back! Oh well, I'll keep looking.

sorry to hear you didn't get it, but like many antiques, it nice they stay in the family! When I buy antiques I say to the family first, are you sure you don't want to keep it in the family, as they know I am a seller of antiques and I am going to sell it! I always give them a second chance to change their mind, its the right thing to do!

I agree with earlylace. I feel bad sometimes when I see ads that feature "my gramma's machine etc" but I'm hopelessly sentimental!! But I'm also sorry for you that you didn't get it. You'll find one!

I went to Goodwill yesterday for the first time and I got one for 29.99. The belt was broken and the bobin cover plate was missing, but it is smooth. It will take a little polishing (& I mean little)and will be great. I looked at it for about 20 min to be sure. Main issue is where to put it. (still in my van for the time beeing) The instruction book and attachments were even with it. The instruction book has 1915 on it. I will have to look up to see if that is the year it was made. ---It can happen for you.

I'm just waiting for the right treadle machine to come along. I emailed the owner and told him that if they are ever ready to sell it, to please remember me...the one who would keep it and care for it and use it.
