Attached are before and after pics of my sewing room. The 'befores' are August 17, 2009. The 'afters' are today, September 7, 2010. That's right over a year! It all started when I couldn't/wouldn't sew in there because I kept losing stuff. Plus I swear it was going to give me an anxiety attack! I got the idea for the Ikea cutting table after seeing pictures of At Home Sewing's sewing room (drool). That was my big splurge, money-wise. I already had and was using the wire basket system. It got moved and we put in laminate counter tops. The right side is not as tall as the left side because orginially the system supported my foldable cutting table from Joann. But the cutting table was really deep and there was a lot of wasted space under there. I thought long and hard about putting in Ikea's Billy bookcases but a) didn't want to spend the money (I'm nothing if not cheap), b) I wasn't sure I wanted to look at my stash all the time and c) would the fabric fade? Now that I've seen Alaskasunshine's stash management I kind of wish I'd gone for the bookcases. But in addition to buying those, I'd have ended up buying the framed glass doors and hanging curtains behind the glass. More $$$$.

The white and wood topped desk is also Ikea as is the computer cabinet (right side of the repainted sewing machine cabinet). The sewing machine cabinet and desk are in front of a large window. The white sheer curtain is also from Ikea, all of $5 a pair! There is now a curtain on the computer cabinet so you don't see the almost 10 year-old PCU and wires. Newest addition is the skirted table to the right of the Ikea cutting table. Behind that skirt is a cut down metal shelving system from Home Depot. It's one of those chrome ones. On it are those plastic bags you see on the floor in the before shots. Also new is a retractable design wall over the closet doors (no picture). It's made from a window shade I already had. My DH built a wood window cornice for it. It retracts up and you just see a nice cornice that can also be used as a shelve for knickknacks. I need to replace the fabric of the shade with flannel backed vinyl and then it's fully operational. So it's only taken 12 and a half months (off and on). It will never be this clean again! So I wanted a record of it. Now that it's been recorded for posterity, I can mess it up.

Wow--love the change. I working in both utility room and 1 spare bedroom. One day--maybe, might get a sewing room, just for me.

What a wonderfully peaceful and organized habitat you have for sewing!!! Looks like a great place to just go sit and contemplate projects, even if you don't have any going, since obviously, you are short on fabrics!!! :lol:
