I was hoping someone on here can show a tutorial on making a sleeve for wall hangings. I have done some research and what I read sounds easy. Does anyone know where I can see how it is done?

I don't know of any videos on making a sleeve, but I'm sure there's at least one out there. How I make a "sleeve" is to cut 2-4" squares of the same fabric as the binding, fold them in half diagonally, press, then match raw edges to raw edges of the quilt, actually I baste them on BEFORE the binding is put on, then when you put the binding on, they're secured.

Thank you for your quick response. I have one wallhanging with lighthouses on it and 20 Advent calendars. I have never made a sleeve before. I guess I will just jump in and give it a try :thumbup:

Let me know if you have any problems with it, or if you don't like it, I have some instructions for doing an actual sleeve somewhere, but I really prefer the method I gave you.

I use this video and it's SUPER easy. Only take a few minutes (then you have to sew them on by hand, but that's easy and fun).

I have a quick and easy way to make the hanging sleeve.

I use sheets for my n quilt backing (because I machine quilt and all my quilts go to charities) The wide hems across the tops of the sheets make excellent sleeves. They are ready-made and easy to apply to the back of the quilt.

I made winter drapes out of 2 quilts and used some left-over fabric which I seamed lengthwise. (This was before I got the idea to use the sheet hems.) The tube does not need to be turned. You can turn it so the seam is against the back of the quilt. Quick and Easy is the best method. Who is going to be looking?

make sure you make the sleeve with space for the rod. In other words, it should not be flat to the quilt but pooched out a bit. Then the quilt will hang flat without a bump.
