I'm wanting to do a OBW (One Block Wonder). I saw this fabric on One Thousand Bolts and have it in my cart. Do you think this would work for this quilt? I don't know what the repeat is. I would want to make a large throw. This picture is a 6" representative of the fabric. What do you all think? And, if so, how many yards of fabric do you think I should purchase? Thanks for your input!

Picture??? Now I see it. I think it would be really great. You can call and they will tell you the repeat.

Here it is! Forgot to add it at first.

did you check the OBW book? I thought a large print is recommended.

I think it would work just fine. You could play with it and decide to make bigger or smaller triangles.

I don't think so! Sorry... you need a larger pattern. I know this fabric and all your blocks would come out very much the same. If you want a very subtle OBW it might work but I really don't think so.

That is good to know. It is a pretty print, but I haven't made one and probably won't unless someone asks me to.

I did check the book (I just got this used at a local quilt show) and the author does mention that she usually uses a larger print, but mentioned the 6-8" repeat also. I was thinking this would make a pretty baby quilt?????? I really like these colors and the cute funky flowers in this.

It said for a 6"-8" repeat to purchase 12 or 16 repeats.

I think I'm going to buy all they have, which is 7 yards. Their price is very low. They run out quickly. If this doesn't work for OBW I can make something else from it.

Thanks for your quick response you guys. Your answers made me think this through a little more.

I have used smaller prints and it does work, it just may not give you as much color variations in your blocks. I like the looks of subtle as well as bolder ones :D
You can always make one with smaller prints and your next one with larger ones :D:D:D

I think the print is too small. It reminds me of the fabric I used to make my first one and I was really disappointed - it was hardly any different! http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-19828-1.htm Look at the link and you'll see the finished top and the original fabric. I'd chose a print with motifs of at least 3" so that thay get chopped into in the cutting process. An 8" repeat will give you two strip stacks yielding around 38 hexagons (you get 18 or 19 per strip) that finish around 6" across so would be enough for a small hanging or baby quilt. But I wouldn't waste my time with this particular fabric, sorry. :-( :-)
