I have a panel with a eagle on it my husband loves eagles. What would I do to make him a quilt out of it. I have had it a long time and just didn't know how to do it.
Thanks for all of your help Granny K |
Use it as the center of a quilt like we do in the round robin groups. Just keep adding borders and it will be a quilt before you know it.

Find a fabric that co-ordinates with it, and just start. As mary said, border, then border and keep going until it's a quilt. Good luck, and post pics when it's started.

You can also do a internet search and see how other panels are turned into quilts. There are many pictures here too for inspiration :D:D:D

You could use the eagle panel as a center for the quilt and make blocks to surround it using fabrics that coordinate or contrast with the colors in the panel. Could be sampler blocks with names of birds, or nature, or blocks with your state name in theirs, or several of one or two blocks that you think look nice with the panel. The blocks can be set side by side or with sashing around each.
Figure how wide and how long you want it (lap size or bed size),what size blocks you want to make and calculate how many you will need for the size quilt. Most but not all have at least one boarder of fabric around. If you figure the size of the quilt with the blocks you can then adjust the size of the boarder to fill it out. Can you post a picture of your panel. That might bring some other ideas. |

Here is one I made for my dad using a deer panel.

I made a quilt with an eagle in the center, my eagle was not a panel but it's the same concept. Here is my quilt.

If you have a WalMart that sells fabric, they have a blue grey fabric (very attractive) that has Eagles in it. It just might coordinate with your panel.

It is wonderful, but I don't think I could do one like that
