I have never experienced needle problems with my formally owned 8000, 9000 and now 11000 & 3160. I do, however, do use either Schmetz, Janome or Organ needles.

Remove the bobbin, put a tiny drop of machine oil or lubercent in small opening at the bottom of the bobbin case. My dealer did that for my 11000 that was making a noise.

I learned about using soap slivers when taking a tayloring class many, many years ago. Yes, it does wash out. I have only used white soap, however.
