The base sticks to the machine, but if you want to remove the light, it just twists off the base...

Also, have you thought about printing your own squares on fabric (like on Printed Treasures)? You can download scientific images or clipart and print them and incorporate the blocks into a quilt.

We just got this in at the quilt shop where I work and I really do like it. The cool thing is that you can snap two rulers together to make a 6 x 24 or a 12" square.

I work for a quilt shop in Northern NJ and we charge $79.95 for a cleaning & tuneup. Machines should be professionally cleaned annually (or even more frequently depending on amount of usage).
