While many are quick to say GM workers are paid too much remember that the worker bought a home and a GM car based on the paycheck he was promised. Homes in the USA. etc. GM began shipping jobs to Mexico years and years ago and then ventured into Germany, China, Austria and a few smaller countries. The profit for GM higher upper level office never saw a noticable drop. They saw bonuses right through the bankruptcy while workers were permantly laid off. The way of business? yes. A profit? Yes. But does it have to be such a large profit for the few at the top? off my soapbox. My point in short was- profit yes. just not at the expense of the workers who made them profitable
If I had my way, no executive would get any sort of bonus during times of lay-offs. Ironically, I used to work for a small chemical consulting company. When the company went through hard times, the two senior managers went without pay so that their employees could be paid for as long as possible.
