No it does not take 20 years however I did keep a tab on the king size DWR that I made for my nephew for his wedding and it took 42 hours and 17 minutes of actual sewing time. I know this because I have a running time on my sewing machine and zeroed it out before begginning his quilt and did nothing but that quilt until done. It took me an hour to sew on the binding. Now that is actual time spent sewing not pressing. I timed the amount of time spent sewing and pressing each block to 45 minutes. This may sound a little retentive but I was on a time budget at the time. I had just started the quilt and had budgeted so much time to get it done over the course of 9 months without pushing myself when my daughter called me at work(yep I work full time) a week after starting the quilt and told me that they had moved the wedding date up by 6 months. Needless to say I went into overdrive to get the quilt done and got it done in time for the wedding. Quilting it took 8 hours on my mid-arm and frame. I also can tell you that I used 4 spools of thread to piece the quilt together. It does look as though that DWR may have been intended to be an applique perhaps. It might make it easier for you to piece that way after getting everything pressed and laid out the way that you want to have it. Good luck and post pics even if it does take you 20 years I am sure that we will all be waiting on pins and needles to see it(no pressure or anything).
