Well, the quilt is probably about 50 years old or so, so the background fabric (what the butterflies are appliquéd to) is worn, and the color is not bright white anymore, from simple wear and dirt. This quilt was used, washed, and is worn and faded, puckered. It was machine quilted. If I, basically, add a new block to it, I want to make it less obvious. Maybe a picture will help:
