It never dawned on me that notions would mean something different in other areas. I'm glad you figured it out! Do you call them accessories, or is there another word to lump them all together?

I have friends in Manchester and Scheffield (not sure if that is spelled correctly), and we have often times had good laughs over English-to-English translations
To be fair there are many states in America that get far worse winters than the week we have just had. The difficulty is that our houses, infrastructure and cars are just not designed for that weather so when it strikes the country grinds to a halt! Plus us Brits do like to make a fuss about the weather ��

I think we would call them accessories - certainly that's what shop signs etc say anyway. The english to English translations can be fun!
