Does anyone have any advice on how I should square up a block with a Star in the center? I'm not sure how to go about finding the 'center' of this type of block :(

Take a piece of butcher paper the size of the square you have now, fold it in half, then quarters, will give you a center point, match with center seam of the star. Then you can square the paper first, before cutting your fabric, then match again with your fabric square to cut excess, the paper will guide you.

Fold the block in fourths ( in half and half again). The center should be the folded corner. Or use a squaring up ruler. Or measure a straight line, diagonally, from corner to corner. The middle of the block should be formed by the crossing of the two diagonal lines forming an X. The X marks the center... hope that helps...

How can I be sure of the center if I have not yet squared the block? Wouldn't the center be off a bit depending on my seam accuracy? Hope I'm not too 'newbie' - just trying to learn. Thanks!!

It is the Star Block pattern from the "Just One Star" program from Moda.

that one would be pretty easy. measure the distance from any star point or indentation to the same on the opposite side. divide by 2 and put a pin in the spot. do the same in another direction and, hopefully, it will match the same pin. then use one of the previous squaring methods

If you are making this star to send to Moda, remember they do not want it squared up before you send it.
