Scrappy quilts tend to look aweful unless the maker has used at least a base level of colour principles to match their colours.

Whatever way you're happy with though, only you have to like your creations ;)

Love your quilt blocks. I love jewel tones on a black background.
I guess I am kind of a combination. I pick a bunch of colors I like, cut the shapes I need--say squares. Then I can randomly put the squares together to make my blocks. Then I lay them out and play with them until I am happy with what I have.

I like your blocks - very nice

I have that same - need - to have "controlled" scrappy -

I just can't bring myself to put any old thing together

It takes me much longer to put something "scrappy" together than the other types of piecing

I also agonize and rearrange and rearrange and rearrange and get some other fabrics out to make it look better to my eyes

I think you're right to consider how colors fit together, even in a scrappy quilt. I have seen some ugly, and I do mean ugly, quilts from scraps because no planning was done. Then those same scraps become jewels when someone takes them and plans out color placement. Just because scraps are being used no need to make trash.

I hear you all too well. That's why I need instructions, lol. I understand the OCD thing.

Maybe it is just me, but that looks like a chocolate brown background and it is just Fabulous. Never would have thought of using that color, but wow does it look great. Now if it is just me and that is black, it is still just as gorgeous, but I am going to add chocolate brown background to my list.

I'm the same way with "scrappy"...I place them, photo them, rearrange them, photo them, etc....then I download to my computer and agonize over "which one" goes better :) :) :)
After hair pulling, screaming and jags of laughter--I decide...but at least then, I know it matches (LMBO)
