The curved pins are so much easier on your fingers. When you are pinning a few hundres to "baste" a quilt, they sure save you a lot of pain. I never thought of using a crochet hook to help close pins, but with the curved ones, I don't need it. The regular pins hurt my fingers so bad that I'm going to try the hook til I get rich enough to get more curved pins.

I think that your quilt is really beutiful i think the trouble you are having with the boarder is that you have to make sure the quilt is square. measure with tape measure across starting in the middle and then the ends. even if it off and inch you are going to have to trim with a rotory cutter. then you should do the lengh measure the border the exact lengh of the top and bottom fold in half and start pinnig in the middle of the end of the quilt. then pin it on trying not to stretch it. then do the lengh. when you sandwich it together, again, making sure it is kept square, it should be wavey free. I personly like to use basting in a can you just spray it on. but if pinning you need pin alot and use the cruved ones it help the fingers and use a spoon to close. happy Quilting Donna

Thanks! You know, I found the pattern online, but do not remember for sure where. I did not like the way the instructions on the website read so I constructed it differently. I am thinking maybe Quilter's Cache and the pattern was originally called Ribbons. It is great to put together, very quick!

Thanks, Donna! I have just been doing things way backwards. I was taught to quilt by a quilter who ties, so she does things a little different then someone who quilts the layers together. I will be trying these suggestions out on my next quilt. Thanks, everyone!

i all so use the curved pins. will never go back to straight pins again. straight pins cause to much pain on the fingers .plus the bloody fingers. no more straight pins.

What a lovely quilt, I'm sure your brother will love it, Well done on your first attempt to machine quilt. Can be pretty daunting at first, took me ages to learn to machine quilt, a walking foot was a big help. Love the blue :thumbup:

Depends on the picture. :) In the pic with the whole thing it is just the top. In the one with the flannel it has batting in the middle.
