I have sewn pieces together and dh used them to wrap the pipes under the house, and have used pieces betweeen dishes when packing and even used smaller pieces in the bottom of flower pots to keep the soil inside

I use strips of left over batting to wind around coathangers before I put on the knitted section.... they look great when finished....

Anything to small to use for potholders and such, I put in a large wastebasket,with my other scrap materials that are too small to use, when I get enough, I make a pillowcase , stuff and sew the end & make a doggie bed for some lucky dog since I don't have one!

Leftover batting is valuable! I sort it by type, and when I'm ready for a batt I can machine zig-sag pieces together, paying attention to the grain,until I get the size I need. On anything other than low-loft, hand-whipping the edges together maintains the loft better. The machine stitching compresses the batting a bit, but on Thermore or other low-loft I"ve had no problem. But the grain matters. Enjoy making "free" batts!

Left over pieces of batting and fabric scraps that I won't use and know it: My quilt chapter has 2 ladies who have requested these to use to make pillows or dog pads to donate to a nearby local veterinarian and they are a huge hit. I keep one of the bags from my polyester batting by my sewing desk and have 2 waste baskets by my desk - a small one for fabric and batting scraps and one for paper. The fabric and batting scraps are emptied into the plastic baggie which the air is squashed out of and when full, taken to a chapter meeting where one of the lady's will take it to use in their doggy pillows and beds. This is how they use up their larger leftover fabric scraps. A neat idea actually. Being a patchwork quilter by preference, I keep my useable scraps and they do end up in another quilt at some point.

What is the "Cotton theory"? That's a new phrase to me.

My sons are grown and gone, but in the days when they had a pet rat, the rat loved to make its bed from quilt scraps!! It could have a brand new clean bed often. I know that you are all cringing at the thought!

I am using them to make these quilt as you go Heartstrings blocks. You can use smaller pieces by zigzagging them together or just pinning them and overlapping slightly.
