When I make a rag quilt, I use a square of fleece or scrap of batting for the middle of the 2 flannel squares. I then sew an X through the 3 layers. Quite frequently, my flannel squares get off centered when I do that, even though I use a walking foot. I just forge ahead because the frayed edges hide most imperfections. It really doesn't matter in a baby quilt because, as my sister in law said "they're just going to poop on it".

I did a rag quilt with cotton squares and corduroy squares. I sewed X's in half of them and a circular design in the others. Did those by lowering the needle in the center of those squares and using my (darning foot I think) i just turned the squares around the needle letting the sewing design move outward as i went. Easy peasy.

Ok so I have some of the squares done. I AM doing the sides and bottom with just strips not squares and sewn together with 1/2 seams. How should I sew the strip pieces together? I just fused the fleece and was going to just sew it when I put it together. Should I make an X on these also?
