I am taking a free BOM class on Craftsy. We are just on first blocks. Excellent lessons. I am really enjoying it. Wish it had been around when I was a beginner.

Oh, and as far as magazines, I like Easy Quilts & Quick Quilts, but others are right about there being so much available online that it is not really necessary to subscribe. I'm just old schools sometimes.

I also like the tip about 1/2 price books! I hadn't thought of that either.

I agree with Sandee. I bought quilting magazines and then found the patterns would either too difficult or I didn't like them after all. Now I get all my patterns for FREE off the internet.

One year's subscription would be enough if you subscribe to a good magazine. By then you will have learnt all the basics and most magazines start to repeat themselves. I find it better to invent my own. If you have trouble with math, all you have to do is buy grid paper and cut it to your finished block size and then draw all the bits on the grid paper. Remember to add seam allowances and you're done. One of the other members mentioned the free block of the month on Craftsy.com. It is a good place for a beginner to start. You get class notes to download as well.

I've been subscribing Fons snd Porter, McCall's, American Patchwork and Quilting and Quilter Newsletter. But plan on cutting back to American Patchwork and Quilters Newsletter. It seems like the each month of the magazine have the same quilt just a different border or color. I do think if your learning Fon and Porter's magazine is good. I've also have been picking up Quilt Mania its published in France at the quilt shops I love the pictures and they have been having some pattern in them for quilts that i've looked at at quilt stores that would covered the cost of the magazine.

My absolute favorite has been Quiltmaker, but I also like Fons & Porter's Love of Quilting and McCall's Quilting. I'd like to subscribe to Australian Patchwork and Quilting, but it's a little out of my price range.

I truly love this site. You get a subscription to Easy Quilts and the digital version with extras - and back issues online. The qnntv has tons of online talk shows - I just love Quilt Out Loud - it is hysterical. There are videos for just about every type of quilt that you want to make. I know that YouTube ha this but there are so many plus the community like this one and so much more.
