    Happy quilting!
No, you aren't the only one. I've realized that if I really, really want it, I'll have to go ahead and buy it while it's available.

when I look at quilts in books and mags, I first look at what they show, and then start thinking of what I have that would either work close or go off in another direction..

Had something similar happen to me recently. I follow a blog called Ivory Spring and Wendy had posted about a quilt she'd designed for Fons & Porter mag. with the Googlies alphabet panel. I fell in love with it and thot, heck, I'll buy the panel now and maybe do something different with it later. Had a heck of a time finding it and finally did at a small online quilt shop. Wendy had said to hurry to find it as F&P said all their kits were sold. When I said I couldn't figure out why the mags would publish patterns with fabric you couldn't find any longer, the woman said that the magazines (esp. Fons&Porter) will do this, put kits together with fabric that's often out of stock generally so people have to buy the kits to get it. Usually the kits are way out of my $ range so it gets frustrating.

I am in a similar bind. Trying to find all the fabrics from maywood studio (wild rose II) to make a quilt. With limited funds I am trying to find it where they sell 1/2 yd increments rather than a one yard minimum.

Seems like in the 90's fabric stayed around a lot longer. Maybe it is just because there are more of us and more fabric companies vying for our business.

yes I have had the same problem. I wanted fabric for a quilt that was in a new magazine I got and I started looking the next day and wasn't easily avaiable. I was told be designer that by the time the magazine comes out the fabric has been on the shelves for at least 6 months. Since they have to make the patterns so far ahead to get into the magazines... I went to manufacturer's website and went to most of the stores that they had listed for buying their fabric and finally found all of what I wanted/needed. It is fustrating.

Fabric, unfortunately, has a shelf life, how long depends on the Fabric Goddess. Sorry, I couldn't help myself. Because the quilts are made well in advance of the time the magazines come out, only some or none of the fabric would be available. You can always go to your favorite online quilt store or a local one and they could help you find alternatives for you that would look just as pretty as the fabric in the magazine.
