Sorry, I didn't read closely enough and so didn't recognize your intended result. You could just continue to add red strips until you get almost to the right size, and then add the strips to the sides that will move the white into the center. If you have precut your strips this might mean that some of them will be the wrong size, since you won't be using the normal progression of the log cabin, but after the blocks are finished it won't show up as a mistake since the eye doesn't distinguish the seam lines within the red.

Finish one block and see if you like it. If not, then rip them out.

I would start ripping too. And I've made this SAME exact mistake before. Except, I didn't realise it until several blocks down the road. I started over it was so bad.

Some Log cabins have a yellow center and since the center square is only 2-1/2x2-1/2", I would change the cream to yellow and use it as the center square. Many people use the yellow square meaning there is always a light on in the home. The other is the red which signifies the warmth in the home. Each to his own, I have done both. And both are equally nice. You actually could just leave the cream and use that as the yellow. No big deal.

I just learned how to rip out a 1-1/2" square inch square and replace it with another color (I screwed up) with Stitch Witchery and thread. Worked charmingly! No Quilt Police around here. Actually, I liked the cream center. Edie

I did the same mistake just a few weeks ago. I chose to tear it back out. I found it pretty easy I laid one block at a time on my cutting board and poked away, then used tweezers and masking tape to get off all the little threads. Had the quilt been for me, I maybe wouldn't of taken it out.

The quilt is for DH with the red and cream blocks making up the IU logo....he looked at the blocks and can't see the difference, so they stay.....creative license of the builder!...I am pretty sure that once it's on the bed, it will never be noticed....but....any more done to this pattern (I have at least 2 more silly Hoosier fans) will be correct!
