Welcome from NY. The beauty of quilting is that IF you make a bad cut, all is not lost and the fabric is far from "ruined". You can always use the bad cut in a scrap quilt. Also be assured you are not alone. I don't think there is a quilter out there that has not, at least once, cut a strip wrong, either too wide or too narrow (which is why if the pattern calls for a yard, I buy a yard and a half or two!). And many of us have plenty of fabrics in our stash that we are saving, because it is just "too pretty to cut". The good news is we all get over it and eventually cut into it. Get that precut kit out and go to town. I also agree on maybe taking a class to help boost your confidence or join a guild.

How about getting an old sheet or pillowcase and practice cutting your pattern. After you feel you have mastered it, then go on to your fabric. its worth a try!

You're in need of a class. One that gets you started and over the "hump" of not cutting up your fabric. Find one at your Guild or LQS and go for it.

I was thinking - and what you need is a sewing buddy. When my friend comes over to sew, I get so much more done. My friend is fearless - you would not believe all the things she makes and she has made more with my embroidery machine than I have. But while she does that, I work on a quilt. She and her daughter do purses, bags, various decorations and it helps inspire me to work on my projects. Another friend used to come over and work with me - she would use my cutting table I would sew.

If you lived near by - I would love to come over and help you along.

Welcome from Wisconsin! At least you have a good excuse. I'm not afraid of anything. I'm just lazy!
