I have had, a fav chair for, about 30 years, office chair no arms, well went to court house and they had the same chairs, I told them if they ever got new ones please could I buy the old ones. Long story short I got 7 chairs at auction for $2. each, so now have 8 chairs in my quilt room. almost one per machine! So I can have lots of friends for sit and sew.

When I first started sewing (about 15 years ago) I sat on a four-legged stool with a wood top. After I got about 65, decided that this was getting very uncomfortable, fast. Bought an office chair with no arm rests, and there was no looking back at that old stool!

My sewing chair is a typing chair that the business department at the high school where I taught for nearly 30 years discarded. I rescued it from the trash heap and had it reupholstered. It rolls in every direction. When I retired, the chair came home with me. You can't beat a typing chair at the sewing machine froggyintexas

This is my sewing chair, purchased from Overstock.com. I love that the arms can be flipped up or down at will. Actually, I liked the chair so much, I bought the exact same one for my computer desk, too. Overstock runs a lot of sales so I waited for a good price.

Here are a few recent discussions I found using the search function and putting "chair" up there in the blank. You might get even more information from past posters. I am using an adjustable stool right now, from IKEA but I do like the bungee chair from The Container Store.

I used a desk chair I think I picked up from Staples or some office store. It is cushioned with arms and adjusts to heights. My feet fit flat on the floor so I know I don't have it too high. Its been with me for 15 years and still going strong but then its only me that sits in it too. I have 2 other office chairs, one at the PC station that also adjusts and has arms and an extra one I think I picked off the curb somewhere with no arms. That one just sits along side my PC station in case someone comes over and wants help on a program. It basically just collects dust most times. My other 2 chairs mentioned both rock and swivel so I can lean back at times when my back starts to ache.

Got this one as a gift to replace my old sewing chair. I was looking for pneumatic lift, tilt and swivel. Love the back support and neck rest. Arms don't get in my way and its comfortable enough for a nap LOL

I love my desk chair with arms and wheels for sewing, however, since my posterior has gotten larger over the years, I think I need to find a new one with a bigger "seat" for more support and to cut down on the stress to my knees. I think I spent too many years as a secretary and I developed that secretarial spread that hasn't gone away, unfortunately.

Do you have a link to the stool you bought? I'm looking for one with a foot rail because I have to get up high to do FMQ, and high density foam.
A doctor's stool is what I use. Before that, it was just a kitchen chair. I really like using the rolling stool better since I'm up and down so much. It's not in the way. I can also adjust the height and use it at my longarm when needed. Purchased through Amazon for around $40 or $50.

I found my sewing chair a few years ago from a legal secretary on "freecycle". She got a new one, so I got hers. It has seat height adjustment, back height and pitch adjustments, and a swivel lock also. Freecycle is my first check before I buy something expensive. I even fenced my whole yard with donated fencing from freecycle. They are now world wide, but I yake great pride that the idea started in Oregon. (The premise of freecycle is that it keeps things out of landfills that you don't want.) The way I see it, is more money for fabric and tools! (Excuse the mess, it is a working sewing room after all....lol!)
