Thanks, everyone. This has been very helpful! I thought everyone else used the invisible thread - but evidently not.

Any color but neutral. A light lavender blends with most all my quilts. I use Glide, it's thin, strong, and perfect for machine quilting and there are many beautiful colors.

Off white on lighter colors or medium gray sounds good to me too, because I had hard time with the same thing.

When I 1st started quilting I was afraid to use color so stuck with white or off-white. Now since advancing in my hobby as I call it, I've tried to jump out of my comfort zone and tried new things. My 1st was the red/black/grey quilt, my avatar...I quilted using red thread with a black backing so it really showed up. I was amazed with how the thread sparked up the back as well as the front. Now when I get ready to quilt I think about the back as well as the front how I want it to show. Just finished a lap quilt with many brights and darks fabrics and decided to try grey as suggested here on the board many times past. I really like it. The back was a peach solid fabric I wanted to get used up and it looked great with the grey thread. I like trying new things these days. Don't think I've quilted with a white or off-white in quite some time now.

Taupe or gray, I went to a quilt show many years ago. I just started to quilt and asked what would be good colors because I didn't have the funds to buy a bunch of colors. So far I have used taupe the most.

I try to match myself, but I am a SID person or straight lines next to seams.
