Here it is called a scraper.............body shops use this same type of item to spread body putty and it is much less expensive at an automotive parts store that sells paint and body supplies.

I love it when we find items for a lot less at a non quilty store. Really helps my skimpy budget.

I bought a piece of plastic at a sewing expo years ago to clean my mats, Olfa, and it works great, it isn't soft like the one you are talking about. As you rub it across the mat, the fibers just come up. It was 5.00 and it is red.
