I have that book (Quick and Easy Scrap Quilts) and its well worth the money- even if you just like one quilt, but there are many to love. I have another book that I purchased but have not made the quilt yet... but I am scanning the cover to give you ideas. There is not a lot in this book but you can apply this string technique to many applique or pieced blocks, like Turkey Tracks or Rocky Road to Kansas, etc.

Bonnie Hunter uses strips in her scrap quilts. check out her free patterns http://quiltville.blogspot.com/p/free-patterns.html

Put a color and a neutral together and cut HST. Sew as you cut.
Make 4 Patches, or sew 3 strips together to make 9 patch blocks. Again, a color w/neutrals.

I do mostly scrap quilts as I like them best of all.

I started an Arkansas Crossroads scrappy quilt as a leaders/Enders project. It is made up with 2 1/2 inch blocks along with 4 1/2 inch background squares and the blocks finish at 16 inches. I just completed 27 of my 30 blocks. You can google Arkansas Crossroads...
