It looks wonderful. I'm just finishing up my first paper piece project that isn't a Judy Niemeyer (that one is waiting for someone to help me since I didn't finish in the class) and I am very happy with it. I agree with you about the joins. Mine aren't perfect either.

It's a beautiful block.
For a 1st time PPing effort, you are well on the way to a PPing pro!
As already said, a little practice with the pins to get the points lining up and you will have your PP perfection!
I stab the pins through, matching up the required points, all along a seam line.
Make sure the pins are all standing vertical.
Then I use the little Wonderclips to hold it all in place.
Next, I remove the picket fence (all the vertical pins) .... and stitch along with my machine.
