Santa Fe is one of my favorite places to visit and fortunately I have a friend who lives close by. So much to see, do, and enjoy in that part of New Mexico.
If you have time, go up the mountain and visit Los Alamos - the history there is amazing. Also Bandelier National Park is beautiful. And being in the mountains, you see a totally different landscape.

I live in Tx. about 90 miles from Carlsbad, NM. A bit of advice if you get to Carlsbad to see the Caverns--well worth the trip. Take a warm jacket and DON'T wear leather soled shoes and take a small paper bag. The temp. doesn't change inside the caverns and is rather cool. You will definitely slip and slide on the trails inside if you wear leather soled shoes. Beautiful caverns. Use the small bag to breathe into as you enter the Caverns, because of the horrible odor of the bat guano, once inside the smell is fine, just damp smelling. Stay for the evening bat flight- amazing.
