I believe you could be talking about Mary's triangles by Sally Schneider. Here is a tutorial that I found. https://hillsidequilter12.blogspot.c...-tutorial.html

if you scroll through the instructions for this block, maybe it might have some info to help?
Very nice! I'm saving this site for myself as well!

    I just noticed this block,
    https://blogger.googleusercontent.co...570BC50012.jpg
but don't think it is made like the one GingerK linked to as the square pieces meet in the center of the block.

Thank you all for your efforts. The block was Cats' Cradle (or Marys' Triangles & many other names), I just couldn't remember a name to find what size to cut the pieces. Found Deb Tucker has a good video. I guess my big problem was that I didn't know what the size the unit was meant to be when made, so cutting measurements was difficult. Hopefully my issue is solved as I don't want any more waste of fabric. The whole quilt has been 'hit & miss' - cutting mistakes and recuts, all the way..
'Quiltingcotton' thanks for the chart, I have saved it for another time.

Thank you, Ginger. This is the method I used when i made a LOT of these for one of Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilts. Unfortunately, the link I had no longer works. I'm saving this one as a document to my computer.

A real easy to make the block is to make a 4 patch block and cut it in half on the diagonal.

GGKay, I think that if you cut a 4 patch on the diagonal, when it was sewn to the next piece, it would cut off the points.
