I would take the treadle "Free" machine. I have heard lots of really good things about them and it would be fun to have one.

But they sure are cute. I would probably go for the treadle in this case. I am not sure about the electric but I tend to prefer the newer 1950 electric that have reverse and some other options. And yes the asking price is too high for that model treadle. Think around $50-$75. Now if you are trading boys baby stuff it might be OK if it works for you.

You have a treadle, power goes out, no problemo, just keep on sewing. Power outages don't stop a treadle operator.

You don't want to take a chance, get both! You won't be sorry I am sure. Of course, assuming the price is right.

Check and make sure that both these machines have shuttles and bobbins. It looks from the pictures like these machines take a long bullet-shuttle that has a long thin bobbin inside it. Also, go online and see what needles each machine takes. Sometimes they take hard-to-find needles.
I'm not familiar with either of these machines, as I collect vintage Singer electrics and have both a White and Singer treadle. I enjoy them all very much. Have fun with this!

The Free is a really smooth running machine. I agree that they are priced too high for the condition they're in.
