lmao

"Hey please don't touch them. I have been told that it can cause them to die "

I almost swept it up, stopped at the last second, it climbed onto my hand when I got down to look at it. I let it sit on my hand until its wings were out, then let it sit on the table (wood pic) and then moved it to a bush by letting it walk onto my hand. After that it flew away.
I think w/ a butterfly, (maybe a moth too), the jewel "glow" comes from little "plates" that are on the wing surface and help it to fly - if you touch a wing you can brush these plates away very easily, like powder. It hurts their ability to fly (I read it or heard it) - I didnt really touch it, just let it sit on me. I dont usually bother other things out there.
Last summer I was sitting (taking a break from laying brick!!) in my yard, watching a bird eating at a feeder, and I sat still - it hopped closer and closer and finally jumped up on my forearm and just starred back at me , lol! even the squirrles in the yard dont run away from me any more! sharet

I live in the Los Angeles area and butterflies are becoming a rare sight around here. I saw a Monarch yesterday and wished it God speed on its journey. They migrate up from Mexico, literally hundreds of miles.

Oh, my!!! How wonderful that you got to hold it and watch it in the first few moments of its life as a butterfly! ;-)
