I bought several quilt tops to practice on my longarm when I first got it. I have one that I bought at a fleamarket for 10.00. I haven't done anything with that one yet.

It has cost $ 125 ( 13% tax included) for the material for the quilt top that I'm working on. It is in batiks. I don't have a backing yet. I can't imagine selling it for less.

Several years ago I attended a class on machine quilting. The instructor said she sometimes buys quilts tops to practice quilting techniques because she doesn't have time to piece a top.

I sold some quilt tops...some I made a small profit on, but most I let go for the price of the fabric or even less if I really needed the money badly. It's not something that will make you a lot of money, that's for sure.

Ebay is full of the tops. I have bought a couple to make small quilts for my dog to sleep on.

I bought a quilt top at an amish sale last summer for 85$. It was the least expensive one there.

I have gotten and finished quite a few that I've found at Church Rummage sales I can't just leave them there homeless and unwanted I always wait til the last day because its BAG DAY ---- After being there 3 days and unwanted just breaks my heart so I bring them home I don't know about the rest of you but I have never seen an ugly quilt.I see the workmanship-the time and effort and love thats gone into them And finishing these poor Unwanted Forgotten Original works gives me a real feeling of accomplishment.

I would love to buy some quilt tops. I would also like to send fabric and patterns to have someone else piece them and then I can finish the top. I will never finish all the projects I have fabric for.

Anything smaller than a baby quilt I'm okay with but the larger sizes scare me.

What would you charge for an unfinished quilt top?
Yes, it's true. I have a friend that buys tops off the internet (or wherever she finds them) and uses them to practice her quilting (longarm), I don't know about all of them, but I know she donates some of them to local quilt quilds that make charity quilts.

She does make her own tops, but it is a real time saver to not have to make the top also, especially when you just want to practice.
