I learned this from a quiltera of Spain.
His name is Bethlehem and she has two blogs:

At the beginning of the blog so much, in the right sidebar (3rd place), there are flags. Press the first flag to choose the English language.
To start let me explain what means applique = applique is a blanket, clothing or fabric, in general, fashion built with more or less rectangular pieces of other textiles for reuse. It is derived from the Arabic or almozala almoçala almozaia, carpet, bed cover. The applique documented for the first time in the texts of the 17TH century, La Rioja (Spain). English equivalent term for the mosaic, a term used in speaking Spanish "patchwork". This term is used today primarily in the autonomous community of the Rioja (Spain), where the craft is very popular and has many followers.
This is the block 1 and consists of 4 Almazuelas.
