I got my dishes when I bought a set of pots and pans. Grandma and mom used to buy certain laundry detergents to get dishes or towels.

In the mid 1960s Safeway I think it was, gave? some nice table ware for every 5 dollars of stuff you bought. Each piece was 39 cents, and with help of friends I got a full set for 12. It was heavy and durable, very pretty, and it went into our son's..well, not quite a hope chest because the 2 older sisters didn't like it, it went into his war chest. He's 43 now and still using it, has almost all of it left.
Chevron I think it was gave out pretty glasses with little squares cut out of the surfaces, still have 3 or 4 of them and that was nearly 50 years ago.
Shell 45 or so years ago gave a Hot Wheel car with every fill up, DFIL made all his drivers save the cars with each gas receipt they turned in for payment. DS made out like mad, had enough to share with nephews and later made a lot selling the newer ones in boxes for enough to make him happy.

I remember when the guy came around selling pots and pans. With that you got china and silverware. I bought the lot for my cedar chest. I still have the pans.. over 45 years ago..

I remember the green glass dishes that came from oatmeal. Now I see them on ebay and can't believe how much they are worth. My first bible came from S&H Green Stamps.

this just reminded me of the Arco animals...they came in pairs and were free with a fill up... you had to purchase the Ark... my oldest son was an animal nut and everyone in the neighborhood saved them for him that didn't have their own kids...

I remember getting dishes when I bought my pots and pans back in 1973! They were heavy ceramic type dishes.
