We go to Las Vegas all the time and I usually take my little portable machine. Why not? We drive so there is plenty of space. If we go with family or friends there is usually time that I am left alone and enjoy sewing. If we fly somewhere I will not take my machine, but I do take some hand sewing or crochet. If it never comes out of my suitcase, no big deal. It is something that does keep me sane. So totally understand your desire to take your machine along to Laughlin.

I have often wished that on car trips!!
If im driving I wish I could multitask and do something else, stitch or even a puzzle (i get so bored)
then if someone else is driving I wish i had my machine and a table!!
One of these days Im going to figure out how to make that work, maybe with mini sewing machine?

I once knew a lady whose husband always wanted to go to Vegas for 5 days in September. She didn't gamble at all. She took her sewing machine and all her Christmas gift projects and had lots of time to sew for 5 days. It was like a sewing retreat for her. She usually got most of her gifts done on the trip. All her gifts would be done by Halloween.

I cannot figure out why people base a trip on losing money. My machine is a portable but I am careful where I take it. It will cost to ship it and have you ever seen baggage people toss things around :?:  I would take a project that I could sew by hand.

There is only so much for gambling. It's a good way to get rid of $$. At least if you sew , you will have something to show! My husband was a supervisor in Mesquite Nv and in the end nobody really wins!

I keep a portable machine and sewing notion tote in my car trunk all the time. If I go, it goes! I flew to visit my DD for a few weeks when she was on a contract working out of state and she didn't have a machine. After sightseeing all there were to see, I wanted to sew. I found a nearby quilt shop and bought a Janome Gem to use while I was there plus lot of fabric and thread! I made nice quilted totes for DD and her co workers. That is the machine that stays in my trunk. Great for classes.
