I have two Ginghers and several Olfas..but I use the Ginghers the most and, in fact, have all but quit using the Olfas. I just like the feel of the heavy ones and they seem to be more accurate for me. JMHO...

Oh My! No wonder you can't like the rotary, cutting on the ironing board would be misery for me. A solid flat surface at the right height is a must for using a rotary cutter.

If you can get a piece of 4x4 plywood or have someone cut you one that you can use on a table, you will probably have better results. Usually a piece the size of your cutting mat. Ironing boards really aren't that wide or stable. If your cutting mat is 36x36 then I would have it cut atleast 4x4 that would give you 6" on each side. Change your blade often or atleast clean the blade of lint.

Agreed - it's the surface you are trying to work on. That just does not work - I've tried it just for little things, and now just move it over to a hard surface to avoid miscuts and general annoyance.

We started with the cutter you linked to and I HATED it. We now use the Olfa Ergonomic. I find it much easier to use and you don't have to remember to close the blade. I have seen video of the Martelli cutter and it looks interesting, but I'd hate to spend that kind of cash and find out I don't like it. I keep hoping to see someone using it at a quilt shop so I can ask for a "test drive."

I have several cutters but my absolute favorite is the Martelli. Love how it fits my hand and is so easy to clean.

Whoops - I totally missed THAT post (about using an ironing board as the cutting surface), and I agree also. You definitely need a hard surface to cut on. Too much padding on an ironing board.

Yep , I agree with the other posts.... an ironing board is the issue. Give it a go on a table ! ... one that is very sturdy.

Not to be rude, but just a question are you using a cutting mat on top of your ironing board? Either way, I don't think you will ever be happy with that set up. Do you have a kitchen counter that you could put your mat on and use that?

That is the cutter I use and I like it except for the button that moves the blade. Sometimes I hit it with my thumb in the middle of a cut. But I like how it fits in my hand.
