First I would like to comment on the beautiful quilt. I think it would look nice with red sashing, blue border and the red/white/blue stripe binding. Here is one I made. Did not use star blocks, because I have a problem with math when it comes to quilting. The blue and gold star on the left is not included in the wall hanging. Hope this helps.

Your quilt is fantastic. I wonder if the red in the stars will 'pop' more if the sashing was dark blue. See how the stars in the middle pop against the dark blue? Can you lay a block on both red and dark blue to see how it looks before proceeding? Your plan for the border and binding sounds great.

Your daughter will love this!
