It is put together with Y seams.

Quote: I made this quilt for my granddaughter. It was easy and fun to make. I used a template and my rotary cutter to cut the shapes. Then I used the shapes as a pattern to cut more. I did it this way to save material. It was directional and I wanted to make the quilt as big as I could. The fabric is called "Totes on bolts" and it had three different patterns on the same piece of material. The diagonal border was made by joining little leftover pieces.
I had to look carefully to "see" the block. Great job with the fussy cutting.

Thanks Bearisgray for the instructions. I have sewn items with this method before and it really is very simple after you do it the first time and there isn't any need for Y seams.

Thanks, Bear. Nice use of graph paper to show us how to do this. Those outside pieces look like triangles, but they are "truncated" triangles. That's what gives them four sides. (truncate: to shorten by cutting off the end or top)

bearisgray, this is another affirmation. I know how difficult it is to write clear directions, and yours were excellent. Thank you!
