Brothers machines are good in my opinion but I really love my Janome.

Costco has several sewing machines on their web site, by Janome and Brother. And you can't beat their return policy if you don't like it or it doesn't work well for you.

Here in Washington State most of the county Fairs have just wound up and the big sewing machine dealers have sales on machines and vacs. Watch the fliers in the newspaper. Around the time of the Sewing Expos is also a good time to look for a good deal on sewing machines, used or new. Seems to me the Expos are usually around November. No matter how old or simple your current machine, if you buy from a shop and not WalMart, see what they will give you on a trade in.

Not here. The dealers all say they have no room to keep the trade ins, fix them, etc. Trade ins are too much trouble for them. One will take a trade in only if you buy an upgrade of the same brand.

I started with a Brother and I still use it for retreats and Sit and Sews at friends homes. I invested in a JAnome 6600 for home use. Both excellent machines and the feet work on both.

I'm a mechanical machine person, I have 2 of them, my previous machine was Singer 5830C, it has 5 stitches, a 4-step buttonhole & stretch stitch. It's a great machine and actually the one I prefer to FMQ on at the moment. About 3 years ago I bought a Janome HD3000 and I'm very happy with it. It's got 18 stitches, one-step buttonhole and it handles thick things like bag handles and large quilts very well, for the moment I'm doing SITD with it but I'm working on learning to FMQ with it. I got it from SewVacDirect for 350 and I love it, I put around 30ish hrs a week on it and it's going strong.

That's what they told the poster that posted how to do it. LOL It works for most of the computerized Brothers I tried it on but I haven't tried the 6000i. Can't hurt to check it out.

That's what they said about my NX-400... worked for me too.
