Diverticulitis...What Not To Eat?
#22
QVC sells a hull-less popcorn, that might be OK for your hubby. Edit: I was just on their site to put a link here and can't find it, so maybe they don't offer it any more.
I wonder if a probiotic might help to balance the level of bacteria in his intestinal tract.

((Hugs)). Is it okay if we all give hubby a hug too? Hugs for hubby too.

Hi Marsye,
Two years ago I was given a colonoscopy... and it was discovered that I have diverticulitis. I always thought it was just IBS. Apparently you can suffer from both (as I do). I really can't say what helps and what doesn't. Sometimes things irritate and sometimes they don't. Eating fibre is food for Div. but not so helpful for IBS as it can cause bloating. Just tell your poor DH I am sorry he is suffering from this, keep trying different things to see what works for him... and tell him I am sending a great big hug from across the pond!
Hugs

I have it and eat what ever I feel like, till it flairs up. My MD found it during a colonoscopy a few years ago. He said I had had it for years, and if they hadn't just happened to find it I would continue to eat what ever anyway. He did give me some guidelines, cut down on nuts, seeds and grains. Increase my fiber, except during a flair up, then limit fiber and increase fluids. I have only had 2 flair ups, both responded well to antibiotics and lower fiber intake. So far stress hasn't bothered mine, and goodness knows my kids have given me enough to.

FIL's family Dr. said he had diverticulitis. His neighbor, a Dr. told him go to a specialist. He said you have to have diverticulosis to have diverticulitis so why wasn't he ever diagnosed for that first? The specialist told my FIL very few per cent of people with diverticulosis have it turn to diverticulitis. The treatment of each is different so I would say get a specialist to determine exactly which one you may have. FIl had neither. His bowel/stomach bacteria was out of whack causing all the distress. He would have been fighting with foods not to eat for diverticulitis and still have bad bacteria causing the symptoms. He was fine after a few weeks of taking digestion supplements. Family Drs are great but not specialist in any one field.

Maryse you have my sympathy...my DH was diagnosed recently too. As most have said....limit the nuts, seeds, corn, and increase the fiber (if Dr recommended)
Best of luck my dear as it is a learning process for each person to key in on their trigger points.
Hugs to you both!
