A lot of the old old singers thread from the outside to the inside. My treadle needle flat side is to the left. If you have problems on a new or unused machine, start with the thread, then the needle, then the bobbin....enventually you will get it right. Of course, it certainly makes it easier if you have the manual and decide to read it. (most men don't find this necessary..including my husband in spads.

Something like that happen to me. However I told HD and he took one look and said it would help if you thread it right. :oops: I missed threading it through the take up lever, how I did that I don't know. So it happen :wink: live and learn. :D

I had lots of problems with my Husqvarna/Viking Mega Quilter when I first got it and even drove 60 miles to have the dealer look at it. Then I decided to get the instruction book and read it carefully--very carefully--and discovered the bobbin had to be put in with the thread going over to the back and it started working perfectly!!

I did the same thing with the same machine..called and took machine back and spent several hours doing a hands on with a salesperson from now on will always do that it's part of your purchase price anyway...I just thought I was a know it all since I have been sewing since high school and I was Miss Betty Crocker homemaker my senior year.

OMG - I have been threading my machine wrong since the day I picked it up. On top of that I wasn't inserting the bobbin correctly. I called the dealer where I bought the machine and they went step by step with me. I am so happy that it sews like a dream now and so I am passing this on to anyone else who may make the same mistake. I feel like a boob but I am happy that my machine works great.

Don't feel bad, I have read instructions, but since I can't remember "past my nose" I thread my machine wrong at times still to this day.

I've been sewing on the same machine for 37 years. Last week the tension (I thought) was all screwed up. I was starting to crumble thinking my beloved Bernina 830 Record was beginning to poop out. Could not figure out what was wrong. Took the bobbin out, cleaned and oiled her, put bobbin back in. Sewed. Same thing. I was just getting up to call the dealer when I thought I'd check just one more time....sure enough-bobbin in backwards. I was so happy! Then I started to worry about myself....

So glad it is working now!!!! My mother gave me a machine and swore she was threading it right and it wasn't working. After literally HOURS of trying, when she left I threaded it differently and it sewed beautifully! She still doesn't believe that I'm threading it right, but who cares, it works!
