I am just finishing up my second quilt (for kids) and thought I'd double check the directions. Yep, I made a goof too. My binding (backing folded around to the front) is 1 inch, instead of 1/4-1/2. And I did the same thing on the first one! I can recut and repin this one...does it really make a big difference? To me the 1 inch width balances the quilt better. But maybe there is a reason for a narrow binding. Help, please! (by the way, thank you all so much for all the inspiration and advice. I love this board!!)
By the way, this quilt measures 38X44.

Warm and Natural/White is fine. That's what I use too.

Question: does the allergy factor weigh in the use of this product?

It is fine, there is no reason to not leave it unless it isn't sewn down well. They ask that it be zigzag or something like that, but size isn't an issue.

    Warm & natural is 100% cotton. I don't know if there's a hypoallergenic batting.

Just finished my second QFK kit and first attempt at free-motion, albeit with patterns, but FM nonetheless.

Beware of washing finished quilts with other fabrics. The black in my first kit transferred to other things in the wash with it.

Otherwise, these are fun and quick to do and a great way to help a child smile. Also great way for new quilters to get their feet wet!

You can order a kit at the Downy website or directly from www.quiltsforkids.org

    KR,

They ask that you use a color catcher in the wash with it. That would have prevented the bleeding onto your clothes and you should probably rewash the quilt with one. If you purchase them and rewash everything, it will probably remove all the dye. I've used them in that fashion and I've had great success getting all of the dye out.

    Good luck

I use the color catchers on reds and blacks and deep blues. Love them.
