This has happened to me too and seems to be after a bobbin has been changed. Rethreading the bobbin and checking the tension there seems to solve problem. When I change a bobbin now I always do a 'test' run on another piece of fabric, wadding and backing. Hope this helps.

It is Sot office to know that I am not the only one having this problem! However, it seems like they should be able to make the machine so that the top thread guides are more efficient!

Look to your top thread had a mess like that once - it was the tiny wire spring by the tension. It was getting weak. Eventually the mess got as bad as yours and I hadn't even realized the wire spring had completely broken off. Take a look at your (I think they call it a check spring).

I have had this before and it was my top thread, tenson or the thread was not correctly through the top disks. Rethread and hold the thread. Also check with your foot down when you put the thread through the disks. Good Luck

If you have made sure the presser foot is lowered and it is still happening, it might be because you have the quilt sandwich sitting too high above the machine bed. I had a faulty bobbin once and the same thing happened until I used a different bobbin, Good luck with your detecting.

I had exactly the same problem, changed thread, needle ect. Finally right before I threw it out the window I went to the quilt shop and they told me I had to use sz 16 needles. That helped alot then I bought a Juki and things have worked great ever since.

I have had similar problems. Rethread, check bobbin and MOST OF ALL make sure you clean out the machine. I stick a soda straw into my vac attachment and suck out all the debris that gathers at least once a week. One time there was a teeny tiny thread in the bobbin case that could barely be seen. Once I pulled that out all was good.

I have had the same thing happen to me and when it does it is always from the presser foot not being in the right position.

Exactly what I was going to say. I have spent literally hours sitting on the floor under my frame picking out these thread tangles because I forgot to lower the presser foot!!!
