Our guild had a Canadian/Asian speaker, her name has slipped my mind, who did the most wonderful work. She spoke of the quilts made in China. The men and women as well a young girls that make these quilts are treated so poorly, many days sewing for for 12-16 hours a day. The conditions that they work in are deplorable. Although the people need the money of which they are paid pennies per hour, she recommended that people don't buy them. Her point of view was that we need to stand up to the employers and insist on better pay and conditions for their people.

I, myself believe in buying from my own country, which has become so hard to do as all the big companies continue to outsource our jobs to other countries.
