I know roughly how may yards I have, but it doesn't matter at all to me. No way am I even considering purging any of it. It makes my life more enjoyable, more convenient, more efficient, and more productive to have what I need already on hand in the here and now. That I won't use it up in my (statistically expected) lifetime is totally irrelevant.

Do you think moving companies charge an up charge when they have to move a quilter's home? I don't know what would be worse for a moving company worker; a book collector or a quilter.

I don't know how much I have...don't want to know. Besides....it won't be my problem to move it...that will be the problem for my kids.

I have no idea how many yards of fabric I have, but I'm afraid to even attempt to figure it out. I don't even want to count the totes, however, I'm sure my DH has and he wants me to get rid of most of it, which is not happening. I purged when we moved from a 3 bedroom home to a 2 bedroom apt. where I have a small sewing "area" in my bedroom and probably gave away nearly half of my stash, which was extremely traumatic for me. I inherited my sister's fabric when she passed away suddenly at 72, and I hadn't even begun to sort through it when we had to start packing for the move to MA, after 33 years in our home in NH, where we brought home our daughter when she was barely 4 weeks old and our son was 2 1/2. Granted, our son, his wife Jen and our DGD Zoe live just 3 miles from us now, we don't get to see them as much as we would like, and Zoe is now 5 years old and starting Kindergarten in Sept. Good luck Pattypurple with your move.

Most of my fabric is scraps or fat quarters. I have very little yardage, although I've started gathering some at special sales and closings lately. My husband thinks I should get 5 yd pieces, but I get 3 maximum unless I'm buying it for a project/quilt backing. I've been given most of it by a friend, but I keep using it until there's nothing left. That is easier said than done, but it's going down!! Then I buy more & fill the tubs up again! LOL! I have no idea how many yards I have nor do I really care. I enjoy it & I use it. That's all that matters to me... :-)

I don't know how much fabric I have but it seems I am always wanting more! It is also a problem because I think< "How am I going to get all these planned projects done?" Maybe I should mail them off to Scotland! We could arrange a swap. I send the fabric and you send me back a completed quilt!
